LGBT+ Families : Adoption and fostering information drop-in

  • 25 Curzon Street Derby, England, DE1 1LH United Kingdom (map)

This event will provide a space for LGBT+ people to learn more about adoption and/or fostering. Bring your own questions to ask either in a group setting or one on one. There’s no obligation - you can join simply to gain information for yourself in the future, or for others you might be supporting.

Here are some general frequently asked questions relating to access, travel and what to expect:

  • Once you ring the doorbell, one of our team/volunteers will welcome you in, sign you into the building and show you the space we’re in. The room has cushy inbuilt seating around edges, with more chairs available to add on, and a quiet corner for a breather. The windows of the space are blacked out with outdoor window graphics so we are out of the passer-by’s view. If you’re new to our organisation, we’ll also ask you to complete a form telling us a little bit about yourself.

The fostering and adoption teams will be there for a group or one on one conversation, answering whatever questions you might have.

  • By foot, from Derby bus station it is a 13 min walk to find us. From Derby train station, it is a 31 minute walk.

By bus, the closest bus stop in a 1 min walk away called Wardwick serving buses 239, Swift, The Mickleover, The Villager and V3.

By car, the closest parking is Friargate Lodge which costs £2.50 for a day. You can find it on the map here.

By bike, you’re welcome to take your bike into the space with you and rest it on the side. There are also plenty of bike parking stands throughout the city.

  • We’ll have tea, coffee and snacks on the go.

  • There is a step access to the space as you come in through the main door (less than 3cm), with a ramp we put out for those who’d find it useful. The corridor itself is step free and has a slight incline. Through a side entrance (with no door) is a space we’ll be in. There is an accessible toilet in the space which has sanitary products available.

  • You are very welcome to bring someone who is an LGBT+ ally with you who you consider family. Alternatively, get in touch with us - we can say hello before the day so there is a familiar face in the space. Our Community Café drop in is open every Wednesday at the same space between 11am and 3pm if you’d like to trial the travel, see the space and meet us before this event.
