Board of Trustees
-
Jim Rand - Chair
I’m Jim, Trustee and Company Secretary. I work as a teacher of English in Burton and joined the trustee board in 2013.
During my time as a trustee, I’ve also volunteered with the youth group, along with my husband Chris. It’s been really rewarding working with young LGBT+ people and seeing them grow into proud, confident adults.
I especially enjoy supporting trans young people: as someone who’s been through transition on the NHS, it’s good to be able to provide proof that it does get better. -
Martin Carter - Deputy Chair
I have lived in Derby for about 11 years. During that time I have worked at various LGBT venues and been involved in many community events and met a lot of people!!
I have been the Chair of Derby Pride for the past few years organising and delivering very successful Pride festivals and events leading up to the annual event.
Before moving to Derby I was heavily involved in youth and community work on various projects and schemes at different levels e.g. researching, training, educating and supporting within my local community! -
David Ashton - Trustee
I am a retired NHS manager and ACAS trained workplace mediator. I have lived and worked in Derby for over 20 years & have two grown up daughters and two grandchildren.
I have volunteered with D+ for a long time starting out as a volunteer on the Switchboard that we operated. I attended Management meetings as the representative of the Men's Group. Since then, I have been a Trustee for a number of years.
I have been able to bring my years of management, counselling, mediation and equalities work to the Board and it is a pleasure to work with the Team on building a quality service serving the LGBT+ community.

Michelle Butler - Trustee
I moved to Derby in 2017 and have worked within charity and community engagement roles within various organisations since then and prior to, with experience in food poverty, healthcare inequalities, young people, sports and activity, and charity infrastructure, and am passionate about ensuring that those who feel unheard can be empowered to speak.
I am methodical and financially minded, and can think creatively outside of the box. I am an avid networker, and am considered a people-person, often attending corporate and charitable events across the East Midlands, and ensuring that there is a voice for LGBT+ people. I am always seeking opportunities to make new connections and build relationships within the wider community and ensure that D+ are part of those conversations.
I enjoy promoting the good work that D+ do, as well as having the chance to use my knowledge and skills to help shape future service provision
