Shawn Hercules

Shawn Hercules is queer non-binary and a interdisciplinary scientist.

Originally from Barbados, they moved to Canada for their Ph.D. They completed their Ph.D. at McMaster University which was focused on the epidemiological and genetics profile of women of African ancestry diagnosed with triple negative breast cancer. During their Ph.D., they co-produced and performed in the world’s first ever science-themed drag show called “Science is a Drag” which challenges cis-heteronormative stereotypes in science. This event continues to be an inspiration to them, the performers and everyone in attendance that can fully show up as their queer selves and excellent in their scientific careers.
